The kangaroo leather is considered to be a very tear-resistant and light leather. Even if this leather belongs to the more exotic leathers in Europe, it is used in Australia like here with buckskin. Kangaroos are not bred in Australia, but hunted due to a high population and a reduction of predators. The leather of kangaroos has a very strong skin fibre cross-linking, which results in a high tensile strength. In addition, kangaroo leather is relatively thin, its average thickness is only 1 millimetre compared to cowhide leather with a thickness between 1.2 and 1.4 mm. Kangaroo leather is often used in both glove and shoe production.
