Elastane or Elasthan is a chemically produced fibre, which usually consists of polyurethane and polyethylene glycol. Elastane is a block polymer that is produced by polyaddition. In fashion, these fibres are often blended with cotton fibres in order to achieve greater elasticity, stretch and a more comfortable feel. The synthetic fibre is very stretchy, but still offers lasting dimensional stability. Fabric blends with a proportion of elastane are generally referred to as ‘stretch’.
