The down is a feather with particularly long and soft feather branches without hooks and with a short keel. For processing for garments goose and duck down are equally suitable. Due to their three-dimensionality, down is particularly voluminous and can trap a lot of air, which results in increased thermal insulation. In relation to their volume, they have a very low weight.
Due to these properties, down is often used as a filling material in jackets and vests as well as in various bedding products.
