The Story of Baracuta
At the end of the 19th century the textile industry boomed in Manchester - not least thanks to the new ship canal, which connected the city to the sea from 1894. But it was also due to the adverse weather with frequent rainfall that John and Isaac Miller soon made a name for themselves in the industry - initially with rain jackets. In the Chorlton Street Factory in 1937, one of Baracuta's most famous models, the G9 Bomber Jacket, also known as the Harrington Jacket, was created. The following year, the jacket was given the detail that still gives it its unmistakable charm today - the lining in tartan Fraser tartan.
Many a celebrity has fallen for this charm since Baracuta was founded. The 1974 English World Cup team is wearing the jackets, and icons such as Elvis Presley, Steve McQueen, Frank Sinatra, David Beckham, Daniel Craig and Robert Downey Junior can count the label among their fans. In 1950, the jackets were exported to the US market, and as early as 1954 Elvis Presley wore the G9 in the film King Creole, thus finally heralding the model's triumphant advance. The band The Clash also stirred up enthusiasm for the jackets at their 1981 concert in Times Square. The chic companions have always been much sought after in many a scene. Baracuta is not only popular with fans of ska, punk and britpop, but also with golf lovers.
Today, the Baracuta G9 Harrington Jacket continues to delight with what it is - a very stylish and practical jacket. The DNA, the history and that the jacket is still produced the same way it was - in England - that captivates all wearers for generations.
